Product Description
The Volant Rod Series is a worthy successor to our ever-popular XA series of rods. It channels the medium-fast action of the XA with some improvements to create an even more refined multi-purpose series. From small creeks to offshore saltwater, the Volant series will get the job done, and do it extremely well. The series is built around versatility and durability without sacrificing finesse and presentation. The goal for the series is presentation, power, and accuracy in perfect balance, so not only can you put the fly on target, but you can effectively fight the hooked fish too. Each model was designed to suit its ideal fisheries: the 4-weight is dialed in on small stream and stillwater, while the 12-weight is built with the power to handle whatever the saltwater flats and blue water brings up for you.

Volant 8 wt
I received the Volant from the Allen team as a replacement for my Azimuth, which finally gave up the ghost with a broken tip that couldn't be replaced, as that line of rods is now discontinued. The Azimuth was my go-to rod for chasing striper in the sloughs of SF Bay; I've got hundreds of striped bass on it, and it survived plenty of abuse it received from me banging it around on my kayak. So it was with some sadness and skepticism that I took up the Volant. What's with this crazy red color, and wow, it's way stiffer than the Azimuth. But after slinging it for a few weeks and hooking into some larger schoolies, I've grown to love it. It's a touch stiffer than the Azimuth (and significantly more so than the Alluvion, which I also own), and perfect for hucking heavy-headed sinking lines (I have an 8 WT 3-5 IPS Outbound Short line on it; it could easily be overweighted with a similar 9 WT line). Yet it's also sensitive enough to switch in a current and feel the subtle takes. It seems to be built tough, and with the quality I've come to expect from Allen rods. Paired with my trusty Kraken, it's my new go-to rig for targeting stripers in the salt.

Volant 8 weight
When I broke the tip section of my favorite 8 weight Azimuth rod, the folks at Allen informed me that this series of rods has been discontinued. This was my main rod for chasing striped bass from my kayak in the sloughs of SF bay -- it was the perfect combo of sensitivity and backbone -- great for hucking a type 3 sinking line in the wind. The Allen guys, as usual, stepped up and sent me an 8 weight Volant for the price of replacing a rod section. This rod is a good deal stiffer than the Azimuth it replace. Took a little getting used to casting the same Rio Outbound line that I had on my previous rod. That said, it's a rod that's more than up to the task of sticking stripers in the strong tidal currents of SF bay and chucking lines into 15 knot winds. When it's time to replace my line, I plan to overline this rod with a 9wt line -- feels like it'll be the perfect combo then. Thanks Allen!

Volant 5wt
Very nice rod. Used it for the first time and it was a pleasure to cast all day from my kayak. Caught a bunch of Lady Fish in the Tampa Bay area, several of tbe larger ones made some nice runs, some jumps and the rod handled them with ease. I cannot wait to use it in the Shad in the St. John's river

Volant 9' 5wt
The Volant has been a very nice all around trout rod. It presents dry's well on the spring creek near my home, handles heavy nymph rigs and casts small to medium streamers exceptionally well. I would recomend this rod to anyone looking for a solid rod in the $300 price range.

Awesome Service
I love this 5wt, it is quite the little cannon. I did unfortunately break a couple sections a couple weeks ago and sent it in for repairs. I received the rod back in just over a week and to my surprise there was a brand new rod and tube on my front porch. Thank you so much for the awesome customer care.

Love it!
I was looking for a rod with great performance from a company I can get behind and support 100% The Volant is another smashing product from Allen. Ive had the rod for about a year now and am confident about writing my review on it now as it has lived up to my initial impressions. I have the 8'6" 4wt. It has a light swing weight and crisp feel. It tracks nicely and with a standard 4wff line cast best at medium distances. It will make longer casts just fine but does not have any excessive power and canon-like backbone, thats not what this rod is for though keep in mind. For short in close work on small brookie streamsI like it with a 5wt line. I would say the action of the model I have is medium-fast. The cork is excellent quality, no cracking, chipping, or hardening. And My handle didn't have any filler whatsoever. I was a little apprehensive about the red from the photos but it is actually quite nice! To me the actual rod is a darker red than pictured that is actually very tasteful. The rod casts dries very accurately and well, will fish a double nymph and indicator rig no problem, and even lob large streamers that have no business really being on a 4wt. This rod has been on client duty so numerous people have fished this rod hard and it has held up very well. I can trust that my Allen products will perform and know they are backed 100% by an excellent company. I highly recommend this rod to someone looking to upgrade beyond a rod that just does the job to something that you will be proud to own and be seen fishing with.
